“Is there anything going on in December in Morro Bay?”

Street-FaireDecember in Morro Bay can be kind of magical. Around the end of November, City workers go around and wrap our downtown palms and eucalyptus in white lights, the big tree at City Park gets a makeover, Santa (under police escort) cruises around in the trolley handing out gifts to children, and the hillsides of North Morro Bay come alight with decorated homes and yards. We’re also one of the few communities in America that has the weather and water for a Lighted Boat Parade. The week before the Lighted Boat Parade (every Thanksgiving weekend) we also have our annual Christmas Street Faire. It’s put on by the Morro Bay Merchant’s Association and it’s a great place to start checking items off your Christmas gift list. This year it goes from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, December 1st and takes place on three blocks of Old Town Morro Bay. Sections of Morro Bay Boulevard and Main Street will be blocked off and filled with the booths of vendors from all over the world, peddling unique artwork, handicrafts, and home and garden accessories. But perhaps the best thing about the Christmas Street Faire is that you get a chance to discover the hidden shopping treasures of Old Town. You’ll be able to go into places like Beads By The Bay, Coalesce Book Store, Aloha Shirt Shop, EcclectiQ, Lina G’s, The Bike Shop, and Central Coast Music – or, one of the many second hand stores, antique stores, and galleries in Old Town. In addition to the food and entertainment on the street, you can slip into places like The Shine Café, Sabetta’s Pizza & Pasta, Jasmine Thai, or Top Dog Coffee. There might even be a movie you like playing at the Bay Theater and you can make a night of it in Old Town.
